These flashcards are special because they have the capital and lowercase letter, a word that begins with that letter, and a picture representing the word all on one card. When I started teaching my children the ABCs, I knew that this was important, but I couldn’t find flashcards like this ANYWHERE!
Not only that, but I carefully selected each word so that it would be easily recognizable with only that letter. For example, I didn’t use the word insect for “i” because children might look at it and say “bug”. I also tried to use words that children would encounter in their daily lives or that children would find interesting and engaging.
Another feature that is lacking in many popular flashcards, is that every word I selected is represented by the simplest of phonics rules…meaning that I only use short vowels, the hard g and c, and no confusing digraphs. I save all of that for my Phonics Kit (coming soon).
