What is Embracing Motherhood?

I created Embracing Motherhood as a way to share what I have discovered as an elementary teacher, ESL coach, and stay at home mother of five. I am proud of the resources I’ve created that have helped me to teach my own children (and others) how to read at a very young age…some as young as 2 and most averaging learning to read by the age of 3.

My mission is to provide tips, tricks, and resources to help other parents who also have a passion for teaching their children. I take great pride in the work I have created over the past decade, and I am excited to share it with you!

Caution! Parents armed with this knowledge will send their children to preschool with the ability to read!

Tools

Use these digital download resources to easily teach your child to read! I recommend starting with letter names, sounds, and first words when children are as young as 6 months old.

These videos bring my flashcards to life! Over the years, our family has enjoyed making these videos together during the early critical stages when they were learning how to read.

My blogs cover a wide range of topics from breastfeeding to teaching your child how to read. These are the musings from my heart that I wrote mostly during my decade as a stay at home mom.

Why Teach Your Child?

Brain development from birth to age 3 is the most crucial time of growth.

  • BRAIN DEVELOPMENT

What children experience and learn from birth to age 3 will lay the foundation for all future brain development.

  • LOVE

Teaching your child through love, laughter, and cuddles is a recipe for creating a life-long self-motivated learner.

  • VOCABULARY

The building blocks of reading begin with oral language development through memorization of key vocabulary words.

  • ABCS

When children learn letter names and letter sounds at a young age, it makes learning how to read a breeze.

Meet the Creator

Hi! My name is Stacey, and I am so glad you’re here!

As a 3rd/4th grade teacher for six years, I worked with many struggling readers who had great obstacles to overcome, yet when I applied my reading program to my own five children, I was fascinated to see that the average age they learned how to read was three!

While obtaining my Master’s degree specializing in Language Acquisition and becoming an ESL coach, I learned some amazing principals that I applied to my own children, poured into my reading program, and am now happy to share with you today.

Testimonials

Thank you for providing the tools so I could teach my oldest son to know his alphabet by 18 months and read by three years old. I really didn’t know where to even start, but with the flash cards, videos, music and simple games and ideas, soon the whole family was involved. He absolutely loves reading. It’s opened so many worlds to him, and given him so much confidence at school. I’m so excited to start again with my second boy.

Our son just turned one and we’ve been incorporating Stacey’s flashcards into his reading routine for a couple months now. He loves the vibrant colors and pictures that accompany the words. His favorite card is “R Ring”. I love that these cards provide such a specific and vital tool for teaching your children some of the most important building blocks for learning in a fun and easy way. They encourage learning, while allowing the child to progress at their own pace.

My kids loved the flashcards and the video! I like how there’s a picture to go along with each letter of the alphabet. The video was well done also, and my kids wanted to watch it over and over again.

I shared the ABC booklets while babysitting Hazel and Violet. Hazel really enjoyed the colorful drawing and letters. It also inspired me as an artist to try something like this sometime.

It really works! These flashcards are different from anything else I have used. Kids love them and are eager to repeat the routine of snuggling, flipping the cards, listening to the little tune. Give them a try!

I recently spent 12 days with my 17 month old. Every day we did the ABC flashcards and videos for as long as his attention span would allow. We added in the numbers, shapes, and colors. Then we added a few simple books. His attention span lengthened. He would eagerly run to me and it became our bonding time. I didn’t see him again for 2 months when we visited for another 3 days where we repeated the routine, adding Dr. Seuss and poetry. At first he appeared not to understand, but 2 months later, my daughter showed me him playing with his magnetic letters where he was running to the phone to show me the letters and saying their names and repeating, f is for fish! He can barely talk at 19 months, but he’s starting to read!

Also, the youngsters at church gather around me, eager to learn the ABCs. My lap isn’t big enough! With sing-songing, I created a rhythm that the kids came to expect. It’s all about repetition, warmth and love.

I use the flashcards with my grandson when I babysit him. The other day, he wanted a book in his bed last week, but I only wanted to give him something that was not destructible, so I offered him a couple board books and these flashcards. He chose the flashcards. Hum!! That is sort of a testimony.
He’s almost 2, and he knows his alphabet verbally really well. His vocabulary is over the top and he talks continuously. He sort of sounds out words and it may be a perfect time for him to unlock the key to words being made up by letters.
