The bottom line is that I love to learn! I grew up in a free thinking family where knowledge was valued and inquiry praised. I experienced the joys of homeschooling and went on to become an elementary classroom teacher and an ESL coach. While getting my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Language Acquisition, I wrote many many papers and even though it was a challenging process, it helped me to really synthesize what I was learning.
That is what I want to do with this blog. I want it to be a place where I can lay out all of my thoughts as I embark on this wonderful new journey of being a stay at home mom. What I have learned in this portion of my life is mind blowing and life altering, and I don’t want to forget a thing! So many times I’ll become curious about one topic or another, get REALLY into it, and then six months later, the details are but a vague fog in the recesses of my memory. What resources did I like? What facts did I find most useful? How did I come to apply this new idea to my life? These are all things that I hope to save here in this blog.
If anyone else besides me finds this blog to be useful, then that would be amazing! Maybe there are some other moms out there who are just like me, combing the Internet that is full of too many resources, and trying to latch on to the right ones that make sense for her family. If so, I want those moms (or dads, grandmas, grandpas, sisters, brothers, etc.) to know that I do not feel like MY way is the best way. This is my journey, this is what works for my family, and this is what works for me. We are all on our own journeys and there isn’t any universal “right way” of doing things. If I come across as being passionate in my views, it is not to imply that they are better than yours or even the best for me forever, they are just the best for me now and what makes the most sense for me today.
When you read this blog, you will get to see a glimpse into the cacophonies of my mind. You will get to see what I’m passionate about, what I’m learning about, what I’m wondering, and you will see me try to make sense of it all in one organized paragraph after another. You will see blogs published before they are ready, pictures that are not perfectly staged, ideas that are still forming…you will see it all. I like to base whatever I am learning on a resource or resources that I strongly believe in. I will always cite the sources that I use in one way or another and provide links to the resources that I used to format my ideas. I’m not promising MLA or APA formatting, but you will be able to find the links somewhere.
So if you are here, if you are reading, thank you for taking the time to learn with me. I welcome your ideas, your feedback, and your wonderings along the way.
